Jorge Arbache

Jorge Arbache is an economist and professor at the University of Brasília. His professional career includes academia, government, the private sector, multilateral organizations, and finance for development. He served as Vice President of the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, worked at the World Bank, the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), and the International Labour Organization (ILO), and served in key positions in the Brazilian government, including Secretary (Vice Minister) and Chief Economist at the Ministry of Planning, among other roles. He is a columnist for Valor Econômico and a consultant on sustainable finance, serves on various boards, and is a recognized voice in global debates on the green transition, trade, green finance, industrial policy, and Latin America’s role in global transformation. He was the creator of the concept of “powershoring,” which advocates for the placement of energy-intensive industries in regions rich in clean and affordable energy to promote global decarbonization and sustainable industrial development.
