Manuel Antonio Teehankee
Ambassador and Permanent Representative, Philippine Mission to the WTO
Ambassador Manuel A.J. Teehankee is currently (since 2018) Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the World Trade Organization in Geneva, and coordinator for the Asia Group of Developing Countries (AGDC). In prior years, Ambassador Teehankee has also had the privilege of chairing the WTO’s Trade Policy Review Body, the Committee on Budget, Finance and Administration, the Committee on Trade and Environment, and the Informal Group of Developing Countries (IGDC).
Ambassador Teehankee had served as the Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary (Deputy Minister) for International Economic Relations, and as APEC Senior Official. An international lawyer by training, he has acted as counsel before the Philippine Supreme Court, the WTO Dispute Settlement Body in Geneva, the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal in The Hague, and tribunals governed by UNCITRAL, ICSID, ICC and SIAC rules.
Amb. Teehankee guest lectures on Public and Private International Law issues, with a focus on Trade and Environment, and Sustainability and Development. In 2020, Kluwer International published his book: Trade and Environment Governance at the World Trade Organization Committee on Trade and Environment.
