About this session

This session will explore the role of trade cooperation in building resilience to the impacts of the climate crisis on trade, development, and sustainability in climate vulnerable developing economies.

It will review efforts in supporting developing countries adapt to climate change, enhance their preparedness to respond to the impacts of extreme weather events and recurring natural disasters, and support climate resilient development, with a particular focus on key sectors and priorities in terms of economic diversification and transformation. The session will highlight the role of trade-related cooperation, financing, and technology co-development, accessibility, and uptake.

The dialogue will take place in a “brainstorming mode” and will provide an opportunity for in-depth discussions on key topics for attention, including on how international cooperation on trade can:

(i) Support the resilience of key supply chains and trade infrastructure in the face of  climate impacts and support access to essential goods and services in the wake of extreme weather events.

(ii) Facilitate the co-development, accessibility, and uptake of adaptation-related goods, services, and technologies vital for key production and export sectors.

(iii) Leverage financing, investment and trade-related support to build resilience, including through economic diversification, at  national and regional levels.

(iv) Support countries to respond to the trade-related impacts and economic losses linked to extreme weather events and recurring natural disasters.

(v) Support climate adaptation plans and measures in climate vulnerable developing countries, and the integration of adaptation and resilience objectives into trade strategies and policy frameworks.
